GDS 18W Transformer Set

The original and the best custom wound transformers for dual EL84, 18 watt amps, This package includes both the power transformer and the output transformer. These are ideal for anyone who is building their own amplifier project or upgrading a factory-built production amplifier. The output transformer is reverse engineered from the original Radiospares output transformer used in the '60s but updated to be more convenient for modern amplifiers. This is the output transformer that the whole 18watt renaissance was founded on since 2000 when the 18watt group started.

The power transformer is also based on Radiospares power transformers used in the 1960s but with a couple small differences. This power transformer has both 120v and 240v primary windings so it can be used across most of the world with a simple voltage selector switch. it also has a slightly underwound secondary to account for the fact that the wall voltage in the US is higher now than it was typically in the 1960s. This modification provides B+ voltages in a typical 18 watt build that will be very similar to what they would have been back in the 1960s.

In addition to custom hand built amplifiers, these transformers are an excellent upgrade for failing transformers in any mass produced dual EL84 vacuum tube amplifier. Many of these production amplifiers use undersized, inadequate transformers which are prone to failure and poor tonal qualities.
