Manuel Contreras began the study of guitar making while working in the Ramírez workshop in the late 1950s. However, with a desire to build his own instruments, he set out to start his own business. The Contreras workshop was taken over by Manuel Contreras II, who continued to create guitars with the same quality, craftsmanship and innovation passed down to him by his father.
This is the top-of-the-line concert Contreras II; the 1a Especial made in 1995. The term '1A' stands for 'primera' or first-class. It has beautiful rosewood back and sides and a perfectly grained cedar top. The guitar has a big, proud sound that will fill a concert hall with ease.
The clarity and warmth of this guitar is typical of the best guitars to come out of Madrid since the 1950's. It has some playwear, dings and small lacquer chips, mostly on the body and top. The top also has a few hairlines in the lacquer. Nevertheless, this guitar is still in very good condition and comes in a hardshell case with TFOA passport.
