RUNT GUITARS Homemade Instruments, a brand by Masahiro Goto, an up-and-coming Luthier with a unique background living in Hokkaido, is proud to present a super-practical Guitar from RUNT GUITARS Homemade Instruments.

RUNT GUITARS officially started its activities in 2016.

Mr. Goto has a unique background, originally working as a studio manager at a studio in Tokyo, rather than as a repairman who became independent and became a craftsman, which is often seen in private studios.

As a player himself, he has seen the problems and areas for improvement that are evident in many players' demonstrations,

He believes in making instruments based on the clear philosophy that "a good sound is the result of an artist's sensibility flowing out through the fingertips, and for this to happen, there must be no stress in the playing to the utmost limit.

Some of the best overseas luthiers have gone from being engineers to craftsmen, but Mr. Goto's instruments are, as is often the case, extremely unique and excellent in both playability and design.

The guitar we have just received is one of the SS (Super Sport) series, which is based on a relatively traditional body shape.

The original design of the guitar is named after a wild animal living in Hokkaido, while the model is inspired by a motorcycle, just as F Company used to quote model names and color names from classic cars.

Among the SS series, the "RACER" line has more modern specs compared to the "STANDARD" line.

And the one we have just received is a RACER CUSTOM designed for Sound Messe.

The pickguard from the "STANDARD" line has been eliminated, and the look is simpler and more rustic, with direct-mounted pickups.

The walnut body and maple fretboard make the most of the grain of the maple to create a high-end look.

Since the "RACER" line, ash and walnut have been used, and the use of good woods has been emphasized.

In particular, the walnut used in this line is curly walnut. It has an outstanding sense of quality.

The body top and back are made of a single piece of walnut, book-matched.

The weight is heavyweight at 4.4 kg, but the beautiful ergonomic curve conforms to the body, ensuring playability without feeling heavy.

The neck is made of rosewood and the fingerboard is made of quince.

Quince wood is hard and responsive, similar to rosewood, making it ideal for the fingerboard. The tone is very responsive and dynamic.

The pickups are Seymour Duncan Hot Rails and TB-14.

The Trembucker TB-14 is a Custom5 model based on the SH-5 Custom and SH-11 Custom Custom. It uses Alnico5 magnets.

It is not too high like the Custom with ceramic magnet, but brighter than the Custom Custom with Alnico2 magnet, and overall a very well-balanced pickup.

It is very responsive and can be used in a variety of music scenes.

Single size humbucker on the front. Some people have an image that it sounds halfway compared to a full-size humbucker, but this model has rich midrange and overtones, and is very pleasant to drive!

This model is especially useful in rock and metal music scenes, and while it has a lot of extension, it also has a slight delicacy and sparkle in the high frequency range that full-size models do not have.

It is equipped with a coil-tapable mini-switch, but this applies only to the rear.

The point that is most highlighted in the demonstration is the asymmetrical neck. The neck has been worked on so meticulously that you would not notice the asymmetrical grip if you held it uninformed, as we have pursued a natural grip.

If you actually open your left hand and place it on the neck, you will notice that the distance from the palm of your hand to the ends of the neck is naturally different.

Also, if you look at the line from the thumb to the index finger, which is the point that touches the neck the most, the curve is clearly asymmetrical.

This is the result of our attention to the structure of the human hand and the superb fit we were able to achieve.

The 14" flat fretboard R, together with the high speed playability that lives up to the name of "Motorcycle Supersport," ensures the highest class of playability.

The neck joint is a bolt-on, yet heel-less joint as smooth as a through-neck or set neck, so there is no stress when pressing the strings on the last fret. (4-point fixation with stainless steel screws & brass washers)

The fingerboard edge is well rounded, and even at low string height on the bridge side, the imo screws do not protrude from the saddle extremely much, ensuring stress-free high playability.

The low fret side has a large radius, which is a great spec from a player's point of view.

The fret edge angle is shallow, which prevents the strings from falling off even with deep vibrato.

Burrs are also unlikely to occur, and the height of all frets has been pushed to the limit to ensure a low action setting from the time of shipment.

No compromises are made when it comes to any of the parts, and in addition to using high-precision GOTOH parts, an originally designed output jack plate made of hand-cut aluminum is also used.

This is a masterpiece that has been created with a great deal of care and attention to detail!
