About This Listing

With original Candy Apple Red finish and a matching headstock, this 1966 Fender Jaguar is a great looking machine. A transitional build, this 1966 Jaguar features Fender ‘F’ tuners and neckplate, dot fingerboard markers and all 1965-dated parts. It’s completely original but for the output jack, a recent refret, and a new nut, and has had a fresh set-up here at Folkway.

The guitar has seen plenty of use and there are a good number of dings along the body’s edges, an extra strap-hole drilled into the body below the neck pocket, and a small, repaired ding in the neck up by the 15th fret. We’ve removed the original mute and tossed it in the case pocket as they are generally terrible and rattly. It’s easy to reinstall if you’d like it on the guitar.

The guitar’s tone is truly exceptional, the original pickups are perfect and the circuitry is untouched save for the jack. The pickup DC values are both 6.7k. Weight is 8.4lbs. Neck thickness at the 1st fret is .85” and is .86” at the 12th fret. 24” scale, 15/8” nut.

With original hardshell case.

NOTE: This instrument contains Brazilian rosewood and will require a CITES Export Permit to ship outside of Canada. The process is simple and straightforward, and does not require anything of the recipient unless an Import Permit is also required by the destination country (Import Permits are NOT required for shipping to the USA and Australia). CITES permitting turn-around times are generally between 2 to 6 weeks, although there are no guarantees of wait-time length. We're happy to answer any questions you may have prior to completing your purchase. CITES instruments are final sale.

Product Overview
The Fender Jaguar was introduced as a high-end model guitar four years after the Jazzmaster. Though similar to the Jazzmaster in its offset body and lead/rhythem circuits controls, the Jaguar differed in two key ways. For one, the Jaguar used a shorter 24-inch scale length compared to the 25 1/2-inch of most Fender guitars. Additionally, the Jaguar used two thinner single-coil pickups compared to the feedback-prone soapbox pickups of the Jazzmaster. The Jaguar was not as popular as the Telecaster or Strat in its initial run, but has found some popularity with punk, grunge and indie rockers since.

Years of Production:
 1962 - 1974

Unique to this Year: By 1966, Fender adds white binding to the fretboard of the Jaguar. Tuners also change to F-style tuners.

Body Style: Offset solidbody

Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck with veneer Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements: Bolt-on neck, dot inlays, 2 single-coil pickups with notched side-plates, individual pickup selectors, 24-inch scale length, treble and bass roll knobs, floating tremolo system, lead/rhythm circuit switch

Finish Specifications: Sunburst is the most common finish for vintage Jaguars.

Notable Players:  Kurt Cobain, Johnny Marr, Carl Wilson
