1974 Rickenbacker 4001 Vintage Bass Guitar Burgundyglo 100% Original w/ original Case.
Almost unplayed condition, it really is a 9.5/10
Up for sale, a 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the original custom color Burgundyglo gloss finish and neck through body construction, this Rickenbacker thumps and growls with the best and the sustain is near endless. A rare custom color which hasn't been offered by Rickenbacker for decades, the Burgundyglo finish on the bass is a rich transparent red that bridges the gap between cherry and wine red. Strings give equal parts midrange power and fundamental warmth available via the two original Hi-Gain single coil pickups. The bass is well-balanced on a strap at 9lbs 10oz, with comfortable action and solid intonation.
The maple neck has a very round and substantial C-shaped neck profile carve with generous shoulder. It's a particularly deep profile for a Ric bass, measuring .960" deep at both the 1st and 12th frets. The 33 1/4" scale is Rickenbacker's traditional long scale, and the gloss-finished slab rosewood fretboard features original frets and pearl triangle inlays. The slender frets don’t show any wear on the crowns of frets, and the bass plays cleanly up the straight neck with responsive, optimally adjusted truss rods. The nut measures a full 1 5/8" in width. The original Rickenbacker logo/truss rod cover is present, along with the stock Grover tuning machines with wavy clover buttons.
All of the electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints and an original harness with CTS pots. The Rick-o-Sound stereo jack plate has a cleanly stamped serial number with a "NG" prefix, conclusively dating production to July of 1974. The control cavity and underside of the pickguard have also been shielded with copper tape to ensure an ideal low noise floor. The chrome plating on the hardware has plenty of shine, and the plastic parts are in great shape including the pickguard.
The gloss Burgundyglo finish exhibits buckle rash on the bass-side upper bout extending to the waist, with some additional dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole, mostly relegated to the back. There is some minor finish loss adjacent to the rear strap button, and the finish is otherwise stable and not prone to flaking in this area. The gloss finish on the neck profile is notably clean and smooth.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included. The case has a clean exterior with black leather ends, retaining a trio of functional latches.
