With nearly 40 years of building experience, master luthier Chuck Thornton truly knows how to craft an exceptionally fine guitar. His Professional model is like nothing else out there and can truly do it all. We think of this model as a master of all trades.
If you're looking for an easy to handle (13 5/8" lower bout) Semi Hollow body built with the gigging and studio musician in mind; the CP Thornton Guitars Professional should not be overlooked. Chuck has always put his efforts into not only building the highest end guitars possible, but also offering them at reasonable price-points. This Professional features a 5A Flame figured Eastern Maple top with Honduran Mahogany back and sides. The workmanship, attention to detail and achievable tones are all of the highest grade possible.
Upon picking up this guitar, the first thing you will notice are it's acoustic properties. This Professional's unplugged tone is rich and warm with plenty of volume for a semi-hollow body. The second thing to note is the ease of playability. The action is superb up and down the fingerboard, with ample access to the upper registers due to the guitars generous heel cutaway. The binding and purfling work as well as the finish are all breathtaking.
Tonally, this Professional offers a wide palette of both useable and incredible different sounds. Whether you are looking to play Jazz, Blues, Rock (you name it) the PAF-like Humbuckers will more than get you there. They sound brilliant with a great top-end, perfectly dialed in mid-range and clear low end. You can also partially split each pickup individually for more single-coil like tones. The partial coil taps make it so that when you split each pickup, you still retain hum cancelation in all positions. Partial coil-taps do not give you a large drop in volume like full-on coil splitting does.
