About This Listing

1984 Quest ATAK 6 A-6TK By Vantage Explorer Destroyer Ash Body Trans Blue Burst Rare.

Here is a rare guitar out of the hay day of Japanese guitar building and quality.

Made in 1984 by Matsumoku, Quest was a subset of Vantage guitars. I would say more of their hard rock/ heavy metal orientation.

This one is the shape of an Explorer crossed with a Destroyer.

It has a solid figured Ash bound body with a 3 piece Maple set in neck. The neck has some beautiful flaming in the maple that is visible:

The neck is bound with a rosewood fingerboard with oval shaped Abalone inlays. The frets show some wear but not noticeable when playing.

It has two humbucker pickups which are black covered, 4 wire splittable. They say IQ in the corner and they sound amazing when played with high gain.

The controls are one volume, and two push/pull tone pots that split the coils on the pickups. It also has a standard 3 way selector switch.

The hardware is all brass or gold plated brass. The knobs are heavy solid brass, the switch tip is brass, the end pins and tuners are gold.

It has a Floyd Rose style bridge with adjustable fine tuners. It’s gold plated with string through slots on the fine tuners. It comes with the tremolo arm.

It has a Gibson style trussrod nut, which is free and adjustable. It has a locking nut, behind a thin standard nut. One of the locking nut inserts appears to be home made, (the center one).

The body had some scratches, dents, dings and chips. NO CRACKS. For a 40 year old guitar, with pointy ends, I give it a 8 out of 10. Most of the inflections can be wet sanded and buffed away.

It has a brand new set of D’Addario XL .09-.42 strings. The frets have been polished and the fingerboard treated and cleaned with lemon oil. Neck relief has been set at .007” at the 7th fret. The action is low and fast.

Please message for more info or closeup pics of the dings and scratches. You can see most of them in the pics.

If you are into rare Japanese guitars that are very high quality, then this one is for you.

The guitar will be professionally packaged and shipped with insurance.

It will need to be tuned and possibly set up to your playing preferences upon receiving. I do not give partial refunds for that as it is perfectly normal.
