Very hard to come by Alvarez Yairi 5067 made in the Martin style in the 70s. But a little smaller than the 000. This was the precursor to the Alvarez Yairi FY40 Carolina Folk. Measures 15 1/8" at the lower bout and 11 5/8" at the upper bout. It widens from 3.5" in depth at the upper bout to 4.5" deep at the lower bout.

Rare script logo on the headstock, which was only used for a couple of years before changing to the AY logo.

It has signs of a pickup that was sloppily removed just above the bridge. The saddle is fairly low. But with a recent set up, the action at the low E at the 12th fret is 2.75 mm. It plays well (but note there is little room for saddle adjustment.) Truss rod turns in both directions. Not much fretwear after the first 3 frets. Some pick wear around the soundhole. Normal scuffs and small scratches but no significant damage or repairs. Neck joint is strong. No bridge lift. It comes with a tight-fitting chipboard case that I believe to be original. Take a close look at pics.

Even with a mild low end, it is overall very expressive. A lovely sound. The top end is crisp and provides excellent articulation, even when flatpicking chords. It works just as well for fingerstyle players. It boasts an impressive volume ceiling for its size. It has opened up nicely. 70s Yairi quality is becoming harder to find. Priced at about half of the next highest FY available here on Reverb.
