About This Listing

1956 Supro Westwood Vintage Archtop

When asked, “What is Cool?”

Here’s the answer!

The sound is Charlie Christian in my opinion. This pickup and the overall feel and vibe of this guitar are truly unique and quite special.

As far as looks, vintage appeal, coolness factor. Does it get any better?
This Supro Archtop was built during the golden age of American guitars, in the mid 1950’s. Just think about all of the amazing music from that era!

The body is big, like an es 175. Matter of fact the body might be an old Gibby, because Supro did work in cohoots with them during this beloved era of jazz guitars.
The pickup is worth, imo, more than the entire guitar. It’s a humbucker sized Single Coil, that sounds like the real deal, because it is. The clarity and truly inspiring tone will leave you awe-struck.

The neck shape is tremendous, this one you could refer to as, “baseball bat”. Exact same size neck throughout its entirety. With a real nitrocellulose lacquer finish throughout. The body is laminate like gibs, with a spruce top, that’s so lovingly aged the old fashioned way, with time and age!

If you’ve had the great pleasure to experience one of these unique Supro necks you know what I mean. It’s a lovely piece of wood to behold. It also plays very well. This rare, true relic vintage piece of Americana, it’s a wonder to hold, hear, play, look at and talk about too. Something about that real patina, aged tone woods, Art Deco look, really gets me going. Look at that Tailpiece. Look at those tuners, look at the headstock, are you kidding me, my Gawd, Wow!
All original!!!

Take a look at how the neck joins the body, that’s unique and really interesting, you can adjust the neck angle with screws, easily I’m told, although I’ve never touched it. It has no neck heel, so you really reach up high, it’s a great feeling neck!

I put a brand new set of Thomastik Infeld jazz flatwounds on it, it’s happy now.

Bone Nut, Rosewood Floating Bridge

As a collector of cool, you cannot go wrong with adding this beauty to your collection. Plus it plays great!

The original electronics are a real wonder.
