How about this one-off?!?!
This stunning M2M Explorer Custom is worlds apart from any other Explorer out there… except for maybe one: A 1998 Gibson Custom Prototype Shop designed by Paul Stanley featuring a modified Explorer shape (which was never released, unfortunately). Compare for yourself, but this Explorer Custom features a very similar astetic. She’s the closest you could possibly come to having the PS Prototype’s design - a suitable substitute indeed!
This Explorer departs from the original design in many aspects: It is inspired by the “Explorer Custom”, and as such, it features multi-ply binding, an ebony fretboard, and MOP block inlays. However, instead of a mahogany-only body, it obviously features a drop-dead-gorgeous FLAMED MAPLE TOP in the finish “Orange Drop”. The mahogany body and neck has been stained a Cherry Red color using historic Aniline Dyes. The pickups are Gibson’s renowned CustomBuckers. It features modified routing, as due to its lack of pickguard, back-routing the toggle switch cavity was required. And of course, it features the Elbow Contour, affectionately known as the “Clapton Cut”, as Eric Clapton is well-known for using an original 1958 Korina Explorer which had previously encountered a mad axe-man.
The Elbow Cut significantly reduces the size and weight of the Explorer body-style, greatly improving comfort and increasing the Explorer’s suitability for small-statured players. This Explorer really sings! All the cliches that you’re familiar with apply here: resonant, soulful, woody, etc. She’s a fantastic instrument! You really couldn’t go wrong with a beauty like this!
In “Mint” condition. She’s factory fresh with all original paperwork. And in case there are any of you who are confused - YES! EVERYTHING IS FACTORY ORIGINAL! This is not one of Gibson’s “Mod Shop” hacked-up guitars, everything is original!!!
