About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1993 Grover Jackson Dinky Axe Standard SSH in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This rare built-to-shred Jackson was crafted in Japan at the Chushin Gakki factory and sports a custom non-catalog marble finish, loaded with a stock SSH pickup complement and FLC-PRO tremolo.

Tonewoods include a yellow poplar body, quartersawn rock maple neck and thick slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard, and this Jackson has a cutting, balanced acoustic profile. The bridge pickup is a Jackson J80 high-output, distortion class humbucker with an accentuated low frequency response, metering at 15.3k ohms. The single coil pickups in the neck and middle positions are J100s, offering classic single coil snap and shimmer, with a bevy of tonal options via the five-way pickup selector switch. This Jackson weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 9-42 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The quartersawn rock maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .725” deep at the 1st fret and .845” at the 12th. The thick slab 24 fret rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this tonewood with a 12” radius and sharkfin inlay, and the stock jumbo frets are practically perfect, with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the locking nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. The headstock sports a Jackson script logo with Grover Jackson text and a “Standard”-embossed truss rod cover, and the original set of black Jackson-branded tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

All of the electronics function as intended; the stock harness is untouched, with full-size 500K Japanese pots, and the pickups are governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with a five-way selector switch. The black hardware is notably clean, including the dome-topped knurled knobs and the Floyd Rose-licensed FLC-PRO tremolo. This Jackson-branded, Schaller-built tremolo actuates smoothly and snaps quickly back to pitch, and the tremolo cavity has a “full stretch carve” to ensure there’s plenty of room for dynamic divebombs.

The finish is a very rare, non-catalog marbled gloss, distinct from the more granite-esque "Stone" finish also offered on this model. The instrument is exceedingly well-kept, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
