About This Listing

Here for sale a Sound City B 120 head amplifier.

PLEASE READ UNTIL THE END OF DESCRIPTION FOR COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THE AMP CONDITION !!!!

This is the B model mark IV serie. B 120 beeing more dedicated for bass and the L 120 for guitar. Even if both models are essential the same except one or two caps. The B120 will allow more low frequency respons. And with these Partridge transformers you have HUGE lows. It can of course be a wonderfull guitar amp without any mod .

One of the best stoner guitar amp and sound incredible on a bass with the " Hiwatt like" 4 inputs, 2 discrete preamp sections ( normal and brillant ) that you can mix, so you can shape the sound that you love. Very versatile amp.

I'm really sad to let it go as I plan to make the reburbish finished by my super tech and use it as a killer bass amp.

Some nice work has already been made on this amp, several hours, some caps and resistances out of specs have been proffessionaly replaced but ONLY when necessary and most of the time with NOS era correct components. Most of these great Mustard Mullard caps have been kept in place. :)

But unfortunatly work had to be stopped before it was totally reburbished . I can't pay my tech for the moment.

PLEASE BE AWARE !!! Main Problem ; The amp PRODUCES A LOUD HUM . Even if Sound City are known for not beeing the quietest . The hum and noise that this amp produces is NOT NORMAL. SO it's sold as NON WORKING for repair , project, so the low price.

The amp works in a way , but produces an anormal loud noise hum.

It's sold cheaper than if I had teared the parts off and sold them seperatley. But some work has already been done on this amp and it would be a waste . Perhaps it came now very close to a fully repaired amp ??? But I honestly don't know how much work still have to be made to finish the work and make it a properly working amp.

Or like some poeple do, you can restart all and make an Hiwatt clone with these top quality parts that are not produced anymore .

Most important is that for this price you have original vintage main and output PARTRIDGE transformers . The best ever made. and some other great parts.

All Sound city amps do not have Partridge inside . They often have some EV transformers that can look like Partridge and are often claimed as beeing Partridge on some listing but are not ... This one has the real thing :)

As you can see tolex has been removed and repainted in a kind of yin yang way that I personnaly like, with some heavy duty paint.

With some Hiwatt style knobs I like the look better than original Sound City look . I boughtit that way ( except knobs) at quite high price as a fully working amp but did not work properly :/

At the moment I can't afford payment to fully finish the reburbishing project and need some cash for my workshop so I let it go and it's low priced especially considering just the price of the Partridge transformer alone , the precious Mullard Mustard original caps and the tested, almost new tubes inside.

6x Matched electro Harmonics el34 better than 100 %

And also almost fresh full set of JJ 12ax7

For the moment the back panel is missing . If I find it again I'll update the listing. But for now sold with missing back panel.

And once again I sell it as NON WORKING FOR REPAIR , PROJECT.

Any questions , just ask.

PS to answer coming question, don't worry, an impedance matching cab was of course puggled when the cab was powered on for showing glowing tubes for the photos . So yes the output transformer is safe !)
