Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer (1979) – Ultra Rare First Version "Narrow Box" - Dual MC1458P / 5x NOS Toshiba 1S1588 - Shipping to Europe OnlyDescription:For sale: a highly collectible, original vintage Ibanez Tube Screamer Overdrive Pro TS-808 “Narrow Box” from 1979. This is the legendary first version, globally considered the holy grail of overdrive pedals. This specific earliest transition model stands as an absolute technical masterpiece and a true exception in Ibanez history. Why this early OD801 circuit sounds superior to 99% of later mass-produced TS808s:Unlike later versions with a single JRC4558D chip and a simplified 2-diode layout, this ultra-early run features:5x Rare NOS Japan Toshiba 1S1588 Diodes: Highly sought-after vintage components that are virtually extinct on the open market. They are instantly recognizable by their authentic "crème-body" coating, central transparent window, and offset blue cathode band. The Magic 5-Diode Architecture: Because the FET-switching and buffers route directly through the dual op-amps, this specific board requires exactly 5 diodes. Their unique forward voltage drop delivers a subtle, natural power amp "sag" and a rich, organic overdrive texture that later 2-diode versions completely lost.Dual Texas Instruments MC1458P Op-Amps: While later versions are known for a sharp, mid-hump focus, the two factory TI chips installed here (date-coded J945 from 1979) sound fundamentally warmer, rounder, and more open in the high-mids. The clipping feels incredibly smooth and liquid, blending seamlessly from a pristine clean boost into a rich overdrive.100% Authentic Electronic Heart (For the collector):Layout: Features the iconic 'BALANCE' knob instead of 'Level'.Graphics: The OVERDRIVE, TONE, and BALANCE labels are correctly positioned above the pots. The original “R” logo is present.Enclosure: External 9V DC jack on the side next to the INPUT. Factory-designed without a plastic battery door.Professional Service & Condition: The pedal recently underwent a professional service check. The internal circuit board was cleaned with compressed air, and the original pots and switch were treated with DeoxIT D5. The pedal works perfectly, switches silently, and has zero scratchy pots. It responds beautifully to the nuances of your picking attack and the volume pot of your guitar.Important note regarding the pots: During careful cleaning with isopropanol, the fragile vintage ink/patina on the back of the middle pot partially dissolved (still barely legible). The other two pots were left untouched immediately and have remained completely original. Replaced Parts (Essential maintenance after 45 years):The circuit board and core electronics are 100% original. Due to age and brittle plastic, only the following 3 mechanical parts were professionally replaced:1.Input & Output Jacks: Replaced with premium Pure Tone jacks (the best on the market). One original old jack is included.2.3.5mm DC-Jack: Replaced with an authentic Ibanez part (DC jack for TS808 35th Anniversary – partnr: 8JKC3006). The old fragments are included.3.Battery Clip: The 9V battery connector was replaced due to natural wear. The fact that these wear-and-tear parts were professionally serviced simply means this pedal is technically 100% reliable, pristine under the hood, and ready for decades of action. The Sound: This pedal delivers that legendary, singing mid-range rock and blues tone. Think of the ultimate blend between Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Texas Blues and the driving guitar sounds heard on Bryan Adams’ Reckless album—but with a woody, open, and tube-like texture you simply cannot get from any other Tube Screamer. An incredible, investment-grade museum piece for the serious player or studio owner. Condition & Terms:The enclosure shows clear and honest signs of use after 45 years (great vintage mojo!).The original red LED shows a characteristic, slightly faded pinkish glow due to age—proof of the original vintage LED.Original box is not included.Sold as-is. Shipping:Shipping to EUROPE ONLY. No international shipping outside the EU/Europe.Will be packed safely and shipped with full tracking and insurance.
