This is a stunningly beautiful and unique guitar, made in Finland in the 1960’s! It’s shockingly complete and in fantastic condition l right down to the original bridge pins!
Part of the 1960’s-1970’s Goya/Hagstrom/Levin family of guitars, there’s definitely a familiar bloodline that runs through the Scandinavian guitars of that time. This guitar definitely has some influences from it’s 1960’s American counterparts, but I love how it’s beautifully reinterpreted in a way that’s distinctly European.
The guitar plays effortlessly with a straight neck and low action. It's an amazing fingerpicker, it's what it was meant for. It has a beautiful mid-range to the tone that is very sweet and will record beautifully, it will shine under a nice condenser mic. The Scandinavian acoustic guitars all seem to sparkle in the mid-range, they have a nice beautiful jangle to them that sit perfectly in the mix. Their frequency slides right into where an acoustic guitar should sit without any excessive bass-heaviness.
There’s crazy details all over this guitar, the sunburst is stunning and in really great natural condition.
The tuners are made by Hagstrom in Sweden, I love that classic Hagstrom tuner shape. They look like cute little Volvo parts. One button was missing, and it is really tough to find an identical replacement. I found one that totally nails the feel and texture of the original parchment-type tuners, but the shape is the traditional button shape and no the original wing nut shape. Still looks the part though!
There’s seriously almost no fretwear, the frets are at 95%. Truss rod turns beautifully and the necks adjusts nicely. The guitar was obviously never really played it’s entire life, it looks like it just sat in it’s case! European clear coats from this time are a little weird compared to what we’re used to seeing in America. They tend to “craze” which is lightly crack. I actually LOVE the way that they spiderweb out, I think it looks super rad. This one is not too bad, sometimes the crazing is super dramatic, but this one looks like it survived pretty well! The clear that’s over the “España” logo on top is coming off a little bit and the binding inside the soundhole is shrunken up just a tad, but nothing too crazy. t’s in super fantastic condition for it’s age. Fantastic guitar with some cool history!
