The Sound of 1976

The Rhodes Piano plays a substantial role in the music of the 1970s and 1980s.  The warm, soulful sound has a unique and unmistakenly gorgeous character.  We were lucky enough to deep-sample a pristinely well-kept 88-key Rhodes piano from 1976, which is known as one of the great years for Rhodes MK1.

The Soundpaint 1976 Rhodes was sampled with three different microphone perspectives, including Cabinet, DI (Direct Input) and all the natural key noises without amplification.  We also sampled both Sustains and short Staccato notes for faster playing styles.

The velvet sound of the Rhodes has influenced some of the greatest artists of all time, including Stevie Wonder, George Duke and Herbie Hancock to name a few.  In fact, the Rhodes Electric Piano was one of the key instruments that transformed Herbie Hancocks style from acoustic to electro-acoustic.

You can also hear the Rhodes in: "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder, "Holiday" by Madonna, "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors, "You're My Best Friend" by Queen, "Everything Is In The Right Place" by Radiohead and thousands of others.
