About This Listing

If you're looking at Marauders, you're likely nostalgic for the days of Paul Stanley and Pete Shelley. But these guitars are so much more than just a trip down memory lane.

First of all, less than 8,000 of these were produced during their 1975 -1980. So, in addition to being a true vintage instrument, they are relatively rare and consistently increasing in value. Secondly, despite these guitars being best known for being smashed on stage by Paul Stanley, they are great sounding and playing instruments. They were introduced by Gibson in the mid 70's to compete with Fender's less expensive bolt-on neck guitars, so they actually play, and sound more like a Tele Custom than a typical Gibson with humbuckers or P-90s - although with a typical Gibson scale and fretboard radius. The Bill Lawrence pickups are fantastic. Again, they sound nothing like a typical Gibson. In the neck position is a Bill Lawrence designed Super Humbucking pickup. In the bridge position is a Bill Lawrence designed single coil pickup with accentuated treble frequencies. This combination gives this guitar amazing tonal versatility.

This Marauder is from the first year of production, 1975, and is in very good shape for a guitar almost 50 years old. The tuners have been upgraded and there are drill hole marks from the original tuners on the rear side of the headstock which are clearly visible in the photos. There is also considerable normal playing/belt buckle wear on the rear of the body, as well as numerous nicks and dings all around the body, again, the extent clearly visible in the photos. However there is nothing affecting the playability beyond these cosmetic imperfections.

This has been professionally, inspected, maintained and set up by Elderly Instruments in Lansing Michigan. The electronics are all in perfect working order. The neck is straight with no dead spots. Comes with soft padded gig bag.
