An experimental Gibson model, the S-1 was a collaboration with pickup designer and jazz guitarist Bill Lawrence. It was also a further variation on the shape started in the Marauder. This included the same bolt-on neck and tried to break into the single-coil market, with three "see-through" bar magnet pickups designed by Lawrence. The rotary switch selector paired with the additional bypass switch gives this guitar an unusually wide range of tones.
This one is in great condition despite some wear. There is minor swirling and scratching all over and some major buckle rash, but nothing compromises the playability and tone on offer.
Condition: Original finish in good condition aside from worn-through buckle rash. Neck has a worn-through patch and great condition otherwise, with fret wear but no buzzing at all. There is a minor crack in the horn of the body, but no structural issues. Fully original and fully functional.
Body: Solid maple in natural finish. Black 4-ply pickguard and original hardware.
Neck: Laminate maple in bolt-on construction. Rosewood fretboard with pearloid dot inlays. 22 frets, 24.75" scale.
Electronics: Original Alnico special design single-coil pickups. 1x volume knob, 1x tone knob, 4-position switching system, "lead" bypass switch.
