About This Listing

The Super Fuzz is a Japanese made Univox pedal incorporating dual germanium diodes and square wave clipping. The Super Fuzz controls are Balance (volume) and Expander (fuzz) combined with a two-position tone switch, this effect was used by several famous artists such as Pete Townshend, Jimi Hendrix, the Black Keys, and even the Smashing Pumpkins.

There are two unique features of the Super Fuzz that set it apart from other distortion and fuzz pedals.

  1. The first is that the full-wave rectification of the circuit produces an upper octave as well as a slight lower octave. This also gives the sound a lot of compression and gives a mild ring modulator effect.
  2. The second unique feature is a tone switch that engages a 1kHz filter that "scoops" the mids, giving a very fat, almost bassy tone, unique to this circuit.

This Model Super Fuzz was made around 1970 - 1973, it also features an internal trim pot for controlling the octave balance.

This pedal is in good condition with signs of wear consistent with its age. The pedal operates properly with no scratchy pots. The battery door is missing but one can be purchased on Reverb for around $25.
