About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1989 Charvel by Jackson DK-065-HH in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced at the Chu Shin factory in Japan and sold exclusively to the Japanese domestic market, these built-to-shred Charvels are rarely seen outside of their country of origin.

Essentially a spin on the Model 3A Charvel platform, this DK-065 features a quartersawn rock maple neck, a thick slab 22 fret compound radius rosewood fingerboard, and a yellow poplar body. The bridge pickup is a Jackson J90C ultra high-output, distortion class humbucker with an accentuated low frequency response, while the neck pickup is a medium output J50 humbucker that produces a full, natural sound with great definition. Both pickups take gain notably well for crunchy chords and white-hot leads. This Charvel weighs 8lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The quartersawn rock maple neck has a slender D-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and faintly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .745” deep at the 1st fret and .865” at the 12th. The slab 22 fret rosewood fretboard features a compound 12-16” radius and flawless jumbo fretwire, playing cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The locking nut ensures pitch stability against the most dynamic of dives via the stock Charvel-branded Floyd Rose-licensed tremolo, and the nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the original black Jackson-branded Gotoh tuners are present and turn smoothly.

All of the electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone knobs and a three-way pickup selector toggle governing the Jackson HH pickup pair. The original full-size Japanese pots date to July, 1989. The black hardware is notably clean, including the pair of knurled knobs and the Floyd Rose-licensed, Charvel-branded tremolo.

The gloss Snow White finish has yellowed to a rich cream color; cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor marks and dings on the body perimeter, largely relegated to the lower bout, and just a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless and feels lightning fast in the palm.

A faux leather gigbag is included.
