For sale, we have a vintage Gibson L-4C archtop guitar with a DeArmond Model 1000 Rhythm Chief pickup. Based on the serial number (#096946) and on physical indicators, we are guessing this guitar is from the sixties, specifically 1967. This guitar has beautiful action, a smooth neck feel and a rich deep tone, and came from a very talented and discerning player who took great care of his collection.
The DeArmond Model 1000 Rhythm Chief pickup, which we are guessing comes from the fifties or sixties, was made specifically for archtop guitars. It provides a natural acoustic tone, and continues to be one of the most sought after archtop guitar pickups today. It is in full working order, but needs to be tightened and cleaned.
The guitar itself will need a small adjustment as there is a little buzzing around the 14th fret, but other than that the guitar plays beautifully. There are some hairline finish cracks and chips as can be seen in the pictures, and a cosmetic blemish on the left shoulder of the body. There is one crack in the middle of the front of the body (coming up from the bottom) that will need to be glued. It's a shallow crack, with no signs of lifting of the wood.
Please feel free to reach out should you have any questions! We are always happy to answer them.
*In regards to setup/repairs, this guitar is being sold as is. We will not cover the cost of a setup or whatever repairs you deem necessary.*
