About This Listing

1923 Gibson Style O Artist carved top acoustic guitar w/hsc

Cool and rare...and still looking good after a century of play and use.  The serial number penciled on the paper label is 74043, and the neck block is stamped in ink with the FON 11937.  The guitar is entirely original including the hard shell case.  The finish shows play and handling wear in the places you'd expect, most notably the finish is worn off the neck shaft from the nut to about the 6th fret.  On the top there are some dings and scrapes but little that is beyond superficial.  On either side of the heel there is considerable checking in the lacquer and some finish loss there.  The top has two very slight hairline checks, they look very old and are 100% solid as if repaired long ago.  Both are along the lower bout, one at the bass side of the tail piece and the other near where the player's arm hangs over the bass bout of the guitar when playing.  There are no back, side, neck or fret board cracks.  There is some wear to the ebony fret board in the first position, the frets however are in excellent shape with very little wear.   The neck is straight and perfect under tension.  It has a deep V profile and a 1 3/4" nut width.  The gorgeous, floral stamped original Waverly tuners work perfectly and look, well...just look at them. Action currently set at 7/64" and 5/64" with adjustment room left in the bridge to come down if a lower set up is desired.  Sonically these Style O guitars are their own thing...they sound neither like an F-hole arch top nor like a round hole flat top.  Sound file available on request.  Ships to US only, no international shipping offered. Note that the shipping rate is set to get the guitar from the east coast (where I am) to the west coast.  If your shipping turns out to be less I will refund the difference once our deal is done.  Better yet, contact me before you buy with your address for a shipping quote to your destination so you don't overpay.  Thanks for your interest and see my other listings for more used, vintage, new guitars and vintage parts.
