Kelley Lane is a fantastic up and coming luthier based in Dalton, GA specializing in 1930's and 40's Martin style acoustic guitars. Even in this very saturated segment, his work stands out from the others. As an apprentice to the great Wayne Henderson, the influence shows through in his meticulous attention to detail and reverence to the golden era Martins they both admire. His guitars are fairly traditional in design but not a slavish copy of the originals, he recognizes the untapped sonic potential and sustainability of less conventional woods . Used in this example is a beautiful set of cocobolo for the back and sides paired with a Carpathian spruce top. The tone is not what you would expect from a new instrument. Despite only being a year old, it has the warmth, sustain, and overtones you would typically only hear from a older Brazilian rosewood guitar. Lane is a luthier to look out for and this is a great example of his most recent work.
