Keyboard magazine published a synthesizer series in the '80s. Dominic Milano edited this synthesizer programming manual.

It contains succinct information relative to today.

I recently purchased  a MicroBrute (red) synthesizer and as a guitar player I had no idea how to control it. This book taught me about everything from envelope generation, l filter feedback, cut off, different types of modulation attenuation, external patching, and even techniques for  synthesizers such as the DX7, JX10, and the Xpander.

There's a lot more information in this book then I can describe. It is also rare and of historical value.
