About This Listing

Hello

** Video added below **

Here is a Beuscher-branded 12 fret Busato gypsy jazz guitar from the 50s.
It has the big body shape easily identifiable with strongly arched and unbraced back as well as gently crowned / arched top (aka bombé in french). I put some pictures with a straight edge to help get an idea of the shape.
The one piece neck is straight. Not sure about the fingerboard wood but it reminds me of some of the Brazilian rosewood you see on some other guitars back. I believe some cracks on the fretboard were filled/glued.
The frets are in great shape. I believe they are original.
The bridge could very well be original as well. Certainly looks old enough.
So are the tuners.
The tailpiece has been changed at some point in time probably to accommodate ball end strings.
The top shows evidence of a repaired crack (you can see pinholes where the cleats where held in position).
The center seam of the top may have been re-glued: hard to say but i could not get any light bleed when putting a light in the body in a dark room so it seems sound.
The neck joint is tight and sound (see pictures) although it has been screwed into the neck block (the tip of a screw can be seen from inside). I see no evidence of the neck ever having come loose or having been reset. Makes me wonder who put that screw and why.
The action on the high E is at 4mm with an 18mm bridge height so there is a good margin to adjust it. Just didn't feel like modifying the existing bridge.
The scale length is somewhere between 650mm and 660mm.

I try to give the best and most transparent description i can. I can add pictures on request.
I put a couple pictures next to its 14 fret sister (not for sale 😉, remains in my private stock) just to highlight the body shape similarities.

Overall it is a great guitar with no major flaws especially given its age.
These don't come up so often and it is a great chance to have such a guitar at a much lower price point than some of the high end Busato models.

I ship worldwide.

The video below is not in typical gypsy jazz style but you can hopefully hear the guitar in an articulate way. It does have more bass than many other gypsy jazz guitars i have encountered but retains the crisp highs and dry textured sound.

(Key words: favino, di mauro, castelluccia, damico, burgassi, selmer, django Reinhardt)
