Earlier this year I set out to create what'd be for me (and I feel for many others) the ultimate Jazzmaster. I'd owned several vintage Jazzmasters and always adored the sound, but the necks have always been too slim for me. I remember seeing the Freddie Tavares 1958 Jazzmaster prototype which sold at Norms last year for $100,000 and thinking "I would love to do a take on that", so I did.
All the parts used are of the very highest quality:
Ultra lightweight (3lbs 1oz) and super resonant one-piece swamp ash body from Guitar Mill
Fat C flat sawn maple neck from Musikraft (.90-.99), 6105 frets, 9.5" radius, Gotoh vintage style tuners in vintage amber tint finish (semi-gloss)
Mastery bridge and vibrato (MV-P polished kit)
Pickup Wizard plain enamel formvar pickups- these are a favourite of Danocaster and sound just like the very best vintage examples I've owned
Rothstein '58 wiring harness with NOS caps and copper shield
ToneGuard black anodized aluminum pickguard
The guitar was painted by local Toronto luthier legend Alastair Miller in what he calls his "Miller Military Green", but what I prefer to call "Avocado Drab". It's a 100% nitro finish and is absolutely stunning in person- hard to do justice in photos. Alastair was also the one to do the assembly and final setup- and let me tell you, he did an incredible job.
My only reason for selling this guitar is that during my time away from Jazzmasters (a couple years) I grew too much of an affection for my Tele's and am, sadly, no longer the Jazzmaster guy I once was. But make no mistake, this Jazzy is "the answer" for someone looking for a fat maple neck example. It's everything I'd ever wanted in one of these guitars and then some.
