Up for sale is this vintage 1981 Fender Lead I electric guitar.
This instrument is all original with the exception of one or two pickup screws and the pickup screw springs. The pots date to late 1980 and early 1981.
Cosmetically, the instrument shows wear consistent with many years of use, including numerous dings and scuffs. There is one major finish ding on the side of the body (pictured), the end of the headstock (pictured), as well as a finish split along the "skunk stripe" on the back of the neck (pictured). All of these issues are purely cosmetic and, while the "skunk stripe" finish issue can be felt while playing, it doesn't seem to be bothersome to us and is not a structural issue.
This guitar has just been cleaned up by our tech who gave it a quick set up and sprayed out the electronics. Everything works as it should, including the switches. The original frets have been dressed at least once and it wasn't the cleanest job, leading to the original rosewood fretboard being scuffed up some. The frets still have a lot of life left in them, however, and the guitar plays great with extremely low, comfortable action.
The original plastic-molded hardshell Fender USA case is included, but is in pretty rough condition. The back latches have all come loose and tape holds the lid on, which is honestly pretty common with these. That being said, the guitar will be well-packed inside and out to ensure safe shipping.
Overall, while certainly not cosmetically perfect, this one is a great playing example of a Lead I and is ready to hit the stage (and quite possibly help you fight your way out of the bar if the gig goes south) as soon as it arrives.
