This Patek concertina is a recent trade-in at Mike's Music and Sound. Manufactured by Otto Schlict in Chicago. Otto Schlicht immigrated to America from Germany in about 1900, bringing with him avast knowledge of concertina repair and servicing. He began building Chemnitzerconcertinas in 1917. Soon Schlicht was supplying concertinas to Patek's Music Store in Chicago, under the name Patek; the Vitak-Elsnic Music Company, as Pearl Queen, andKosatkas House of Music in Berwyn, Illinois, with the name "Peerless." Some of the finest concertinas ever built were the Patek and Pearl Queens. Patek andPearl Queens with reeds by John Friedl, are prized for the best reeds ever produced. What was left of the Otto Schlicht Patek/Pearl Queen factory was purchased in 1953 by Christy Hengel.
This concertina is in excellent condition and has been completely serviced and tuned by our accordion tech. Instrument has been completely overhauled -
- Disassembled, cleaned and lubricated all treble keys, bass keys and key levers
- Cleaned bellows
- Glued and resealed inside of shells
- Replaced all treble reeds and bass reed valves
- Checked, cleaned and tuned all treble and bass reeds
- Replaced broken reed as needed
- Leveled treble and bass key heights as best as possible
- Replaced both bellow gaskets
- Play tested, checked and tuned as needed
Deluxe model from 1930 that includes optional Green pearloid body, Abalone inlays, pearl-topped buttons. Missing a few sections of abalone - see pictures. Otherwise the concertina is in fine cosmetic shape.
