1969 Gibson A5 Double Cutaway Mandolin
Jazz mandolin enthusiasts and fans of the Country duo Homer & Jethro, will easily recognize this as the model played by Jethro Burns. With its modernistic double cutaway, it enabled Jethro and those who followed him, easier access to the upper fretboard.
In keeping with the Gibson style of its post 1950 instruments, the spruce top and curly maple back and sides are finished in the popular Gibson cherry sunburst with cream-colored binding (on the extended fretboard as well). The peghead is in the florentine style with the pearl crown inlay and Gibson logo. The neck has a sleek “modern” rounded profile and plays with ease.
This is an extremely clean example of this desirable, almost 50 year old modern-era mandolin.
