This guitar has a 1 3/4" Nut Width and wider bridge string spacing of 2 5/16th”. Its ebony fingerboard is inlaid with etched diamonds and squares on frets. Its Brazilian overlaid headplate, which shows no wear, has a light gold “Schoenberg” decal and hosts six Waverly open-gear tuners. The bridge is ebony, rectangular and has twin pyramids – one on each side. The saddle is “drop in” style.
The top is complemented by Wood top trim and soundhole rosette inlay, a diminutive OM style pickguard, a scale length of 25 1/2”. It has Ivoroid body bindings with a Wood purfling on each side.
Italian spruce, the spruce of choice for makers of classical guitars, shares a number of characteristics with Engelmann spruce, including color, lightness of weight, harmonic complexity, and fullness at the lower end of the dynamic range. Because of its visual similarity and significantly higher cost, its name has been affixed more than once to a piece of Engelmann spruce by unscrupulous (or uninformed) wood dealers and luthiers.
Italian spruce differs from Engelmann in its potentially quicker response and greater headroom. The availability of anything better than mediocre European spruce (which is easily exceeded in quality by the better grades of Engelmann-a commodity that is still readily obtainable) is sharply limited, unless the boards are selected at the source in Europe.
The gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides broadens out the dynamic range, bringing overtone rich low-end and mellow yet defined trebles. When fingerpicking, each note is rich and warm, yet well defined and easily articulated.
The Brazilian rosewood on the back is cathedral pattern and very beautiful.
This Instrument is in Great Condition with only some light surface scratches on the top as well as some natural lacquer sinking on the back.
Includes Hardshell Case.
