The jack of all trades fuzz box! A hybrid Germanium and Silicon hot-rodded fuzz-build, using a single BC337 Si transistor for the tight focused high end bite and a NOS September 1987 Soviet Russian NPN Germanium MP38 transistor from FAFX personal stash for an ultimate clean-up and rich low frequency growl!
It's a bit ToneBender and a bit Fuzz Face. Much fuller sounding than the regular ToneBender though... Not so focused. This gives it a beefier and "airier" sound. Tonally, it's somewhere in-between Led Zeppelin I and Electric Ladyland... 😉
What's really really cool is this pedal is also great to use for searing overdrive or crunchy rhythm settings! Perfect for laying down some Lynyrd Skynyrd/Drive-by-Truckers-type of riffs. If you roll back the attack to 12, and roll up the filter knob, you start getting into some fantastic sounding low-gain Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster/Preamp territory. That's where I'm finding the box really shines!
It's a solid fuzz box, and it definitely does the Gary Louris spitty but subdued fuzz sound that you hear on Hollywood Town Hall. Especially if you are playing through humbuckers... It's also extremely sensitive to your pick attack! Pluck softly and it cleans to nearly clean, even with the Fuzz dial maxed out. Dig in harder, and the fuzzier your tone will get... But first, the only question is, Are You Experienced? 😎
Controls are:
Vol. (Volume) - sets the output Level of an effect, should be self explanatory...
Tone - is a passive Filter control for either Treble or Bass accentuated frequencies...
Fuzz - changes amount of Drive present in the circuit, ranging from snarly Treble Boost to a wild 60's Fuzz.
