This original Shutt Mandola-Guitar was given to my grandfather by his father, new, in 1915 as part of his musical education. Grandfather was very musical and played several instruments. His family hoped he'd go into music (they were wealthy), but during the depression all their properties were sold and Grandfather began working at Pratt &Whitney as an engineer. Grandfather passed in 1972, and the mandolin was passed to my mother, who played it in bluegrass circles. Note the unusual topload carrying case, made for the traveling musician (where you could remove instrument without putting case down).
