The World's Fair of 1933 was held in Chicago, Illinois under the banner of "A Century of Progress" it was a REALLY BIG DEAL. Judy Garland and the Andrews sisters performed and for the first time ever, professional Baseball held an All-Star game!
As part of the hoopla, Gibson issued a special fancy edition of their stringed instruments called the "Century of Progress" series including the L-C guitar and the A-C mandolin, regarded as the rarest by many collectors.
This A-C, resplendent with its pearloid peg head and fretboard, has an arch top with oval hole and interestingly, a flat back. This example has some heavy wear on the back of the neck but is otherwise in excellent condition. It plays easily and possesses that highly desirable woody tone.
