Left handed Hofner basses are iconic. When people think of Hofner, they often think of the 500/1 also known as The Beatles bass. They became the symbol of an era. During the 60's and until the early 70's Hofner produced some great instruments. This 500/8 is one of them. This is the first left handed 500/8 I've ever encountered.
This bass is 100% original. When I acquired it, one of the Schaller tuners was missing. I was able to source one that is from the same era. It was played for some years and then stored away. During storage, the back top was slightly damaged. That does not affect its playability or tone. This bass has mojo !
The neck pickup tone pot seems stuck. It can be either replaced or repaired. I will let the new owner decide what he prefers to do. The rest of the pots work but can be scratchy from time to time. This is why this one is priced to go.
This bass was set up recently at Carmine Street Guitars in NYC. It plays well and sound great. As a lefty, I got to appreciate this one. I really enjoyed its warm and mellow sound. The flame on its back is spectacular.
This is a great bass for both the collector and the player. I hope it will go to someone who will enjoy it as much as I did. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss as you may never be able to find another one.
