Select/Solid 4x14 Cast Broze Snare Drum. Ultra-rare.

This amazing snare drum was made by the Select/Solid Drum Company of Watsonville, CA. Select/Solid was a co-creation of Bill Gibson and Johnny Craviotto. Dave Patrick would later joined the team as a product specialist and sales manager.

This drum is a limited edition 4x14 Cast Bronze Shell with Aluminum Hardware. There were only (40) 4x14 Select/Solid cast bronze drums ever produced.

This unique shell was produced through a partnership with Wisconsin Centrifugal. The drum shell was centrifugally cast, a process used in the nuclear power industry to eliminate all impurities and produce the highest standard possible. This is not sheet metal, but cast bronze alloy. The unique alloy and casting process resulted in a drum shell so hard that famed engraver John Aldridge engraved only one drum, and refused to engrave any additional drums.

The weight of this drum is close to 15 pounds.

What makes this drum even more special is that all Select/Solid lugs, hoops, and drum parts were made in the USA. Select/Solid drums & hardware were 100% Made in the USA. The lug casings and die cast hoops have a hex shape design that is carried throughout the drum. Each lug has a specially designed insert that ensures the drum stays in tune. 

Tonally, this is an incredibly sensitive yet powerful snare drum. The quality and craftsmanship are unsurpassed. This drum was built to last.

This drum was a favorite of artists like Larrie Londin, Bill Gibson, Richie Hayward, Greg Morrow and Kenny Aronoff. Select/Solid Drum Company would stop producing drums in September of 1990. Today, Select/Solid snare drums remain highly sought-after by players and collectors alike.
