About This Listing

1973 Rickenbacker 4001 Fireglo

A great 1973 Rick 4001 for the taking.  The rods and neck are in good shape, plays with nice action. Passive toaster pickup at the neck and high gain bridge pickup - both are strong, all original except for it's missing the pickup cover, which you would've removed anyway!  One pot (bass volume) has been replaced, other three are original. MH serial number dates this from August during the transition of features that year, and there were some mashups around this time. Has some early 1973 features (i.e. toaster pickup, still 1/2" from the neck) but some post-transition features (i.e. white binding, not the checkerboard). Comes with brand new hard-shell case (by definition, not the original).

The bass has clearly been played, but certainly not beaten up - just how you like it. Strong color, has some small chipping in a couple areas, as is often seen on these, along with some checking, general player wear and patina.  It's been a working bass for 50 years, and all things considered, the wear and tear is minor. It's also just had a complete re-fret by Chicago Fret Works that looks like a million bucks. If you're looking for an iconic bass with some history built in and a great workhorse for your collection, this one is for you.

Product Overview
Initially developed as a deluxe, two-pickup upgrade to Rickenbacker’s 4000 bass, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar has become a notable model for its long list of famous players. First released in 1961 with production lasting through the very early ‘80s, the 4001 has earned fans in bass players like Lemmy Kilmister, Kim Gordon, Rick James, Geddy Lee, and many, many more. The extra pickup was added to the 4001 to widen tonal possibilities and up the bass frequency response.
