About This Listing

I will hate to see this one go. The pictures tell much of the story. The frets are the low, wide variety and they’re in excellent condition. The action is low and easy. I have medium gauge bronze strings on at the moment, they are a good fit. It stays in tune very well. This one is very versatile, you can take it from smooth and round to straight up chank with ease. The orange oval label under the f hole is in excellent condition. The neck is 1 and 11/16ths wide at the nut.

The original pick ups are tarnished on the covers from the deterioration of the original pick guard. An exact replacement is included (see picture) with the original hardware. The bottom of the tail piece is heavily tarnished, but the metal is intact (see picture). The front of the tail piece appears to be new or replated. The original witch hat nobs are included. A strap button has been added to the neck heel. The original (?) hard case is in good condition with working latches.

Please look carefully at the pictures and ask questions before purchase, as this item is not returnable.

Product Overview
The Byrdland was designed by Gibson with Billy Byrd and Hank Garland (the model name being a portmanteau of their last names). This guitar is similar to the L-5CES but with a thinner body and shorter scale. At the end of 1957, the Byrdland was graced with PAF humbuckers (replaced by Patent number humbuckers in 1962). In late 1960, the designed changed from a curved Florentine cutaway to a sharp Venetian cutaway. Later models and reissues have been made with either cutaway style.

Body Style: Hollowbody single cutaway
