Vintage 1970s El Maya Neck Thru Stratocaster Made in Japan Guitar

For auction today is a vintage 1970s El Maya Super "Strat".

Produced by Chushin Gakki and distributed by Rokkoman.

These guitars were manufactured from 1978 - 1982 and sold worldwide under various rebrands.

In the US they were called Suntech (Daryl Stuermer played one on Genesis and was an endorser until 1982).

In Europe mostly under the name El Maya.

This guitar model, as mentioned before, was used notably by Daryl Stuermer (Genesis/Phil Collins/Jean LucPonty) in the late 70s and 80s.

The El Maya appeared on the scene in response to pro players wanting a Stratocaster but hating the inconsistent quality of the late 70s Fender product.

This particular guitar is the era model shipped after Daryl received his in April of 1978.

It is in very good-excellent condition especially for the age.

The neck is arrow straight and cannot warp due to its construction.

These guitars are very rare and have become collectors items.

The El Maya - Suntech pre-dates the explosion of high end super Strats of the 80s such as Valley Arts, James Tyler, Schecter (Van Nuys), Tom Anderson, Pensa-Suhr, and Sadowsky.

If you can imagine what a Stratocaster would be like if it were made by Alembic, you will have a pretty good idea of what this little gem is like.

I have not played such a nice guitar for a long time.

It is in excellent condition, with a few dings throughout, as you can see in the pictures.

This is a real special funky machine and sounds amazing, better than almost any Fender Stratocaster out there, even the old vintage ones !

The neck is very straight and the action low.

The wiring is typical strat 5-way wiring.

Nut and bridge are made out of brass.

It is with 3,6 kg rather light for a necktru guitar.

Nut width: 41,5 Scale: about 640mm Weight: 3,6 kg Neck shape: somewhere between C and D

It is fully working and has besides some playwear no flaws.
