Need a bass that simply does "the job" but don't want to buy from an earth-poisoning, cookie-cutter, factory, box-store mega-corp? Then you need a Lutes bass. This instrument is my answer to the classic "bass guitar" look and feel, but to 21st century standards. Each Lutes is a full 34" scale with a maple neck, narrow "J" style nut and minimalist electronics, hardware and controls. And, as always, each one is made by me, with care, in an eco-conscious environment from locally sourced and reclaimed materials.
No. 11 here is a lefty and is made from a butcher block oak table I reclaimed from a popular CT music venue. This table has heard some great music. I did a "slip and stick" refinish of the tabletop, dying parts of i black and leaving the original finish on other parts before refinishing the whole thing with low-VOC Rubio Monocoat and a handmade beeswax polish. The single coil pickup was also hand wound by and the matching pickguard are made from reclaimed hollow core door skins.
This bass is ready to do the work - for much less than a boring, American made, uninspired "classic" bass guitar.
I play its right handed sister in the attached video. This one was made the same way and sounds the same.
