This guitar has a complicated history. I got it off a friend who got it from a pawn shop. I had no inclination it was a Gibson, I assumed it was a fake that someone had hacked up. A friend of mine who used to be a Gibson rep saw it, and that's where a rabbit hole started. First of all, the body was reshaped several times, and some of it is woodfiller. The headstock shape was also changed slightly, I assume to give it an ESP MX look. The guitar began as a white 2002 Explorer, a friend was able to track down one photo of it before the modifications. The veneer was also removed from the headstock and it was painted to match the body, I wanted it to be black, and that was how I actually realized that there was a serial number on the back of the headstock, under a coat of paint. I painted the front of it black and put the Gibson logo back on it.
What I know for sure:
Began as a White 2002 Explorer.
Pickup is an old active EMG.
It for some reason has a roller nut.
There is a chip that shows some woodfiller.
Someone drove a hardware eyelet into it as a strap button, but the original is still in position.
The Porsche stickers are covering a hideous flame graphic.
This is the ugliest guitar I have ever seen.
It does however, play extraordinarily well and sounds absolutely killer. I'm selling this as it is. Believe it, or don't. I wouldn't have, either.
