PLEASE LOOK AT ALL PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTION BEFORE OFFERING/ PURCHASING!!! ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO ASK!!! NECK ONLY!!!
This is what I believe to be an early 85’/ late 84’ R5 Baretta neck. I say 84’ because of the “Baretta” script after the logo, but 85’ because the original tuner mount holes were drilled for 45 degree Schallers, as opposed to 90 degree Gotohs like on most 84’s. And yes an R5, not an R2! Regardless, not an easy neck to find now-a-days and a desirable one to boot!
HOWEVER! This neck is by no means perfect and will require someone with the knowledge/ skill to bring it back to its former glory. I’ve had this neck for about 3-4 years now and used it on a mutt Baretta build of mostly original Kramer parts, but all mixed years (see last few photos). This neck will hold and play under tension, but isn’t perfect.
Issues*** 1. NEEDS A FRET JOB! Looks like the 1st fret was replaced at one time. Again, it worked but it shouldn’t be this way. Other frets look original but are pretty much flat. 2. The finish is original on the head and was clear coated to preserve the original decal/ finish. However, parts were either placed too tightly or the finish didn’t cure in time and sunk/ left indentations. Figuring whoever wants to take on this project will refinish it anyway, so it’s not a major issue. 3. Back plate mounting holes. There’s some, best would be to dowel them so it’s stronger. Not a huge issue but again, a flaw. 4. Truss rod notch actually seems to be fine/ holding? Like I said and pictured it was holding, not splitting under tension. Looks to have been repaired once? Only reason why I think that is because of the cloudy look in the finish on it? Seems to hold just fine, but if you’re an experienced luthier or know that these are common issues for these necks, you still may want to look at it. I wasn’t worried about it, but again, if you’re looking to restore this neck, it’s not something I’d ignore just in case.
It’s NOT PERFECT. Obviously has its wear n tear and then some unfortunately. If I had an extra 84’/ 85’ body I’d be keeping and looking to redo but I just simply don’t have the time, and lost interest over the years. I’ll say this once again, because I don’t want to play the whole “This isn’t what you sold me, I want a refund” game. PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE PHOTOS BEFORE OFFERING/ PURCHASE. ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK! SOLD (AS IS)!
It’ll be shipping nicely wrapped and within the USA Only. Thanks for looking!
