NOW REDUCED FURTHER - I’m offering a Hopf Swinger which (like its more up-market sibling, the Hopf JP Professional I am selling in another listing) was developed by Dieter Hopf together with the English singer-songwriter John Pearse of BBC2’s „Hold Down A Chord“ fame (who was quite popular in Germany at the time and even lived here for the last years of his life) in the mid- to late 1970ies. It also featured some innovations at the time, such as the reinforced fan-bracing inspired by classical guitars and the fact that it was designed to be played with both steel-strings as well as nylon strings - so it was one of the first cross-over guitars in a way!

The Hopf Swinger was in principle the same guitar as the JP Professional, but sold at a little lower price as Hopf did not have to pay any licensing fees to John Pearse as they were not sold under his name, this according to information given to me by Dieter Hopf himself with whom I had a very nice e-mail conversation a while back. Main differences between both guitars are different headstock-shapes, pick-guard shapes and tuners.

This particular Hopf Swinger offered here was built in January of 1976, here some more details:

Hopf Swinger, 01/1976

- OM size guitar

- Cedar top, solid

- Jacaranda sides and back, solid

- Jacaranda pick-guard

- Slotted headstock, tuners w/plastic shafts

- bone-nut (newly made by hand as somebody cut the string slots too deep on the original)

- Long scale, 66cm (slightly longer that the JP)

- Neck-width @ nut: 45mm (narrower than the JP)

- Neck-width @ 12th fret: 55mm

- Fan-style bracing, reinforced

- Saddle/nut can be exchanged for use w/nylon strings (currently set-up for steel strings, nylon-string saddle not included)

- non-original Thomann gig-bag

The guitar has low action and great playability, it is currently strung with Elixir custom lights. Fret-wear is minimal, intonation is good, some normal and small signs of use. The guitar is structurally sound and in great playing order - highly collectible as well as a great player!

You can find some more information on John Pearse here if you’re interested:

Now sold as described for EUR750,- incl. insured shipping (DHL) within continental Europe, other locations pls. see below. Open to reasonable offers.

Thanks for your interest!

Edit: due to popular demand I've added a quick video clip showcasing the Hopf Swinger with some original fingerpicking/fingerstyle tunes by yours truly. Just an iPhone recording played w/out fingerpicks or nails (to speak of), best listened to via headphones. Thanks!
