Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a rarer Turner 34X model microphone from the 1940's with the heavily deco styled influence that comes with satin chrome finish. This is one of the most widely recognized microphones ever produced and is now replicated by the Heil Microphone Company. Their newer model is called "The Fin" and is often seen here on Ebay and Reverb.
The 34 series came in two different styles over the 20 years it was produced with the only changes coming in the lower half that carried the Turner badge. The 34X microphone came only the crystal element which did not hold up well with time and they rarely ever work today.
Pic # 2 is from an old Turner advertisement showing the 34X and it's basic characteristics.
I'll admit it's not the prettiest 34 X out there but if you are more worried about having one you can actually use for just about any situation...then this will do nicely.
I decided to take liberties to remove the original element as it was dead and install a high quality Shure dynamic element that sounds very much like a crystal element on steroids. The element is omni-directional so it picks up more background noise than a uni-directional element It behaves very much like the original crystal element but again...much stronger signal. It's higher pitched and void of bass so it's great for an old "rockabilly" tone. The element has been fitted with a soft foam insert held in place which merely the tension of the housing just as the original crystal element was. It will not come loose either.
As you can see the satin chrome finish is in decent overall shape though there is obvious pitting and spots of chrome loss. The stainless steel screen shows no wear. The screen is free of any holes or dents. There are no dent's, fractures or missing pieces anywhere on the mic. An easy 5 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The badge looks well worn but still legible. The joint mechanism works flawlessly and the tension is adjustable. The threads for both the stand and cable are perfect.
A vintage cable is provided but only 6 inches in length. The cable is soft, pliable and comes with a modern Switchcraft male XLR end connector. Simply attach a longer male XLR cable of any length and you are good to go. This will sound much stronger however if you use a female XLR to male 1/4 inch cable. Just a heads up.
The mic will screw onto just about any desk or floor stand as it has the universal 5/8 X 27 thread.
A great conversation piece anywhere it sits and ready for any live event. This mic will screw onto any American desk or floor stand.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
This is going to make a great display piece anywhere it's shown or used.
And as with all my items...
