WEM Power Bass 1962

Rare and collectable The WEM 'ER Control 15' Valve head and matching 'Power Bass' cab circa '61-'63. This classic WEM head and cab not only looks so cool the WEM pre-amp produces a fantastic warm valve tone. With my '63 Precision and flats it's very like the Ampeg B15 but has a more 'woody' element to the sound - it bring's out the natural sound of the tonewoods of the instrument. With a P Bass and rounds there's a sweet spot just as the speaker breaks up that is just superb for that gritty valve tone. Sounds brilliant ! (Check out my '78 P in my other ad)
A superb recording amp the term 'Power Bass' however should be taken lightly.
It is perfect for studio and low level acoustic but I would'nt push the goodmans speaker to far - though for guitar it gives a fantastic overdriven tone. The head is detachable for use with any other cab - a higher rated speaker for example but I think it's best as intended. The amp is secured to the cab by two long thumb grip bolts, the heads of which are just visible on the top of the amp either side of the handle. They quickly unscrew and can be fixed so the cab stands vertically if preferred. Just serviced with a partial re-valve it's ready to go.
