Highly Suspect Wide Range Humbucker Bridge — 17.1k - alnico V rod magnets We made a new signature pickup for Johnny. This doesn’t replace the Highly Suspect humbucker; it just fills out his arsenal. Rich Meyer (Venice Guitars, bass player for Highly Suspect), who makes the guitars for himself and Johnny, asked me to solve a problem for Johnny… he was torn between two Strats with Highly Suspect humbuckers: one was too heavy but sounded amazing, one was lighter (perfect weight) but didn’t sound big enough; we needed the lighter Strat to sound bigger. The solution was obvious to me… the Wide Range Humbucker, particularly my Alternate Dimension version, is bigger than traditional construction humbuckers, so I made one with the same winds as the Highly Suspect humbucker. Not only is the tone bigger, because the coils are massive, it’s made with alnico V rod magnets inside the coils (instead of steel polepieces and a bar magnet underneath the coils) so it’s more responsive with a snappy attack. Rich tells me that Johnny is playing this guitar 90% of the time now.
This the Alternate Dimension Wide Range Humbucker wound to the Highly Suspect humbucker specs… it fits in Wide Range Humbucker routs which are larger than traditional humbucker routs. My Alternate Dimension Wide Range Humbuckers are designed to have bigger bobbins (coils) than the traditional Wide Range Humbuckers so metal covers do not fit on these pickups.
The options for tops are: white, parchment, cream, black, matte black, or tortoiseshell. The coils are wrapped in string for protection; your options are: white, off-white, and black.
All Stonewall Pickups are hand-wound (scatter-wound). When a coil is machine-wound, each turn of the wire lies directly next to the previous turn. This creates a muddy tone. If you've never owned hand-wound pickups, you are in for a treat: the clarity of tone and frequency response really comes through. Very open sounding with great string-to-string definition. Stonewall Pickups also have unmatched dynamics.
All Stonewall Pickups are vacuum wax potted to prevent microphonics. If you would prefer your pickups to not be potted (noisy but my favorite for recording), be sure to mention it when we email you regarding your pickup options.
All pickups are made to order and we have received a huge number of orders recently. Please allow 2-3 weeks from the time of order for us to craft and ship your pickups. Once your order is placed, we will send you a confirmation email to verify the specs and options and ensure you are getting exactly what you want.
