Sergei de Jonge began by learning to play the guitar. His teacher had a guitar by Edgar Mönch whose sound intrigued him. At the end of the 60's, he met Jean Larrivée, who himself had been trained by Mönch. Sergei de Jonge became his first apprentice. In the 70s, after a return trip to Holland, he set up his own studio in Toronto. The quality of his work rapidly earned him a good reputation. He shared his time between building instruments and training by organizing lutherie courses. Among the people trained by Sergei were his children, who worked alongside him, among them his son Sagen and his daughter Joshia. Sergei de Jonge has explored several ways in the construction of nylon and steel string guitars: traditional, double top, lattice, etc... The guitar presented here is equipped with a wooden lattice bracing. It is a powerful and well balanced instrument combining modernity and tradition.
