This listing is for a 1968 Gibson Southern Jumbo "SJ" Square Shoulder Acoustic Guitar. This guitar will need significant repairs and restoration and is being sold AS-IS for repair. The serial number (972650) dates the guitar to 1968. The good news is the guitar is all original with no changed parts. The bad news is that it will pretty much need a complete restoration to be a professional quality guitar and achieve it's potential.
The main issues are as follows. There is a hump at the end of the fretboard so it's definitely unplayable anywhere above the 12th fret. It actually plays fairly well below the 12th fret and the action is low and comfortable so if you only want to play cowboy chords you'll probably be ok with only a few buzzy frets here and there. There is a big top crack which is open and will need repair. Lastly the bridge is lifting very slightly, see pics.
The best way to repair this would be to plane and refret the fingerboard and combine that with a professional bridge reset. In my opinion it will not need a neck reset.
The guitar is otherwise nice cosmetically with just some nicks, dings and scratches. The sunburst finish is original and has a great vintage look and patina with just some light finish checking. The guitar comes with a non original case and will be expertly packed for safe shipping.
Because this guitar is being listing and needed some fairly major repairs I am selling it AS-IS with no returns or refunds and the buyer will be responsible for any and all necessary repairs. Please do not buy this if you are not comfortable with this no returns policy.
Please message with questions and we'll be happy to answer. Please also message for international shipping rates.
