About This Listing
I have a music store and at one time we sold a lot of USA made round backs. This particular guitar was made for us by the legendary John Budney when he was with the company. You can consider it a custom shop piece even though there was no custom shop there at that time. They would make special pieces for celebrity endorsers but there was nothing like a custom shop for mere mortals. John loved highly figured wood and there is some on this guitar.
It was built in 1999. It has a combination of an Adamas neck and a custom legend body with beautifully flamed maple for the top as opposed to spruce. The highly carved bridge would have been on a custom legend. The rosette looks like it was from one of their collectors series guitars and the shell inlay around the body is of the highest quality abalone, very bright and colorful. It is a super shallow bowl and the electronics include a built-in tuner. There is no model designation for the pre amp.
The serial number is a five digit Adamas serial number, 15XXX. The model designation is 1866-X which is a legend number. I have seen the X designation on other guitars John built for us. I guess it stands for experimental or one of a kind or something like that. I don't know for sure that this is a one of a kind instrument but it might well be. I've never seen another one on the market.
We initially sold this guitar to a customer who was an avid Ovation collector but I don't think he ever used it. There are no signs it was ever played. The neck is remarkably straight and the string action is low as it should be. The customer says it's time to sell off some of his collection so get it while you can.
Email or call with questions. I will not respond to off site email addresses but will always respond on site so make sure you have that set up. I apologize for the outrageous shipping costs but that stuff has just gone through the roof. You can pick it up here for free, otherwise it will be shipped in its factory hard shell case inside a strong card board box with as much packing as we can use. In better times I'd try to figure out a way to keep this for myself so get it before I change my mind :-) .
I might consider shipping outside the US at your expense and risk, we'd have to work out something.
