What we've all been waiting for.
This boat paddle... I mean.... Uh.. Bass... started life as a 1974 Gibson Ripper bass. It was brought to me after the teardrop conversion was performed, and it was in a state of extreme disrepair.
The ebony fret board has been reglued to the neck and re-fretted with jumbo frets. Has a hand built bone nut and vintage style tuners. Headstock has been reshaped.
The body is sealed and painted with nitro satin almond white.
The pickups are the original 1974 ripper pickups. Very hard to find and they sound really good. I had to replace the leads on both of them, and repair the windings in the neck pickup as well as the plastic casing. They are wired to CTS 500k pots with a volume and tone for both pickups. The knobs are micro chickenheads.
Bridge is a black replacement solid brass top loader.
The finish has a few imperfections here and there on it. This bass would look really cool with a relic finish on it and the nitro will lend itself to that naturally.
This guy only weighs 7 lbs 11 ounces and sits fairly comfortably with a decent strap.
Im not going to lie. This thing is impossible to play without a strap.
All cavities have been shielded and run to ground. The pick guard is custom shaped and made from clear plexiglass. The back of the guard is painted black and has also been shielded.
This bass has a cool mojo all its own and has a very low/fast action. The tone is classic fat Gibson all the way through.
