Scotty Moore’s, Elvis Presley Era, Gibson 1966 Tal Farlow Guitar, Autographed! Authenticated

Serial Number: #406675
Scotty Moore was one of the greatest and influential guitarists of all time. His tenure with Elvis Presley spanned 14 years, starting with their first hit recording session at Sun Studios in 1954, through Elvis’s legendary “Come Back Special” in 1968. He played on most of Presley’s most famous recordings, including “That’s All Right”, “Good Rockin’ Tonight”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, Musicians Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2011 he ranked 29th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
In 1973, Scotty met Bucky Barrett at Moore’s Music City Recorders recording studio. Bucky was the guitarist in Roy Orbison’s band and a popular session guitarist. After Moore heard Barrett play he gave Barrett this Gibson Tal Farlow model guitar. The two guitarists developed a lifelong personal and professional relationship. Moore was the best man at Barrett’s wedding. They recorded and toured together for many years.
According to Barrett, “Scotty acquired this guitar on the day before Thanksgiving in 1966. He gave me the guitar in 1973 and never asked for it back. Years later, when it became clear that the guitar was now mine, Scotty signed the pick guard”.

Scotty Moore played a similar size and shape Gibson Super 400 for most of his years with Elvis Presley. Moore’s history this guitar is unknown. There are no known photographs of Scotty Moore playing this guitar.

The 57 year old guitar is in excellent structural and playing condition. We left it pretty much as we received it except for reinstalling some of the saddles that had come loose. It shows minor signs of age. There is checking over most of the guitar top. The checking is not easily visible in many of the photos. I've included a couple where it can be seen clearly. Scotty Moore’s autograph on the pick guard is somewhat worn but still easily read. The tuners have been replaced with more modern Grovers, however the original Gibson tuners were saved and remain in the case. If the original tuners were reinstalled, they would cover the new holes created for the Grovers.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a guitar, owned by Scotty Moore during his tenure with Elvis Presley, then given to one of his closest personal friends and musical cohorts. Even without it’s history with one of the greatest guitarists of all time, the 1960s Gibson Tal Farlow model is an exquisite and rare guitar with only 215 made between 1962 and 1969. Includes a signed letter from Barrett explaining how he acquired the guitar from Moore plus a signed Certificate Of Authenticity signed by Barrett. Hardshell case in the photos is included.
