One of the company’s earliest entries in the world of phasers, the Roland AP-5 Phase Five bolstered the standard intensity and sensitivity controls with fast/slow parameters for Leslie-style warble and an onboard LFO when you want to send your sound to space. Able to ramp the speed of the effect up and down with the third footswitch to achieve analog organ-style swirl, the trump card in this early oddball is the C.C./T.C. (Continuous Control/Touch Control) which makes the effect respond to your input, producing enormous echo chambers. A collector’s piece and pedalboard crown jewel for ’70s effects enthusiasts.
- Sensitivity: Controls the sensitivity of the effect to the input signal
- Slow Rate: Controls the speed/rate of the LFO wave that controls the effect
- Fast Rate: Controls the speed/rate of the LFO wave that controls the effect
- Slow/Fast: Switches between the modulation speeds set by the Slow Rate and Fast Rate knobs
- C.C./T.C.: Switches between Continuous Control mode (C.C.) and Touch Control mode (T.C.). In Continuous Control mode the phaser is controlled by an LFO, in Touch Control mode the phaser responds to the input signal
